The Ascendant is time-sensitive. A reliable birth time is required, and Selyune will never invent one.
THE LOCAL HORIZON
Why the Rising sign needs an exact time
Your Rising sign, or Ascendant, is the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth time and place. Astrologers often use it to describe your immediate approach to life and the structure through which the rest of the chart is read.
Why are birth time and birthplace important?
The Ascendant depends on the relationship between a precise moment and the local horizon. A different time or location changes that geometry, so the calculator needs both inputs to produce a defensible result.
How quickly can the Rising sign change?
The Ascendant moves through the zodiac over the course of a day and often changes signs roughly every two hours, but the pace is not uniform. Latitude, season, and the sign near the horizon can make a generic two-hour estimate misleading.
What if your birth time is unknown?
Selyune does not calculate a Rising sign from an unknown time. You can still receive supported planetary placements, but the Ascendant and houses are omitted until you provide a reliable time.
Rising sign vs. Sun sign: what's the difference?
The Sun sign is based on the Sun's position and is usually read as identity and vitality. The Rising sign is a local, time-sensitive angle used to describe your first approach and to orient the chart's houses.
Is the Ascendant the same as the first house?
The Ascendant is the exact eastern angle that begins the first house in Selyune's default house system. The first house is the full area that follows that cusp, so the two ideas are closely linked but not interchangeable.
