TRANSITS, EXPLAINED

A moving sky, read in natal context.

In astrology, a transit compares a planet's current position with a birth chart. The geometry is measurable; its meaning is interpretive and becomes useful only when the natal factor, timing, and uncertainty are kept visible.

01 · NATAL

The fixed reference

Your natal chart supplies the placement or angle being contacted by a moving planet.

02 · TRANSITING

The moving body

A planet's current longitude and speed show the direction and pace of the contact.

03 · RELATIONSHIP

The aspect between them

The angular separation determines whether a recognized aspect is within its configured orb.

ANATOMY OF A TRANSIT

Three dates describe one developing contact.

A transit is rarely a single moment in lived experience. Selyune represents it as a window around the closest calculated contact.

01

Start

The planets enter the configured orb and the contact becomes active in the timeline.

02

Peak

The angular difference reaches its closest sampled point within the active window.

03

End

The moving planet leaves the orb or the grouped daily contact ends.

DISTINCT SKY EVENTS

Not every transit is an aspect to your chart.

A complete timeline distinguishes personal natal contacts from broader changes in the moving sky.

01
PERSONAL

Transit-to-natal aspects

Current planets form conjunctions, oppositions, squares, trines, and sextiles to natal placements.

02
COLLECTIVE

Sign ingresses

A planet crosses a zodiac sign boundary, changing the sign through which it is interpreted.

03
MOTION

Planetary stations

Apparent longitudinal motion changes direction at retrograde and direct stations.

04
LUNAR

New and Full Moons

Major lunar phases are identified from the angular relationship between the Sun and Moon.

METHOD BEFORE MEANING

What can be calculated and what remains interpretation.

Selyune keeps astronomical facts, deterministic prioritization, and narrative language as separate layers.

What Selyune can establish

  • Planetary longitude, apparent speed, and aspect orb
  • Whether a sampled contact is applying, at peak, or separating
  • The natal placement or reliable house involved

What remains limited

  • Astrology does not scientifically prove an event outcome
  • A transit meaning cannot replace the person's real circumstances
  • Approximate daily windows are not presented as second-level event times

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Clear method. No cosmic fine print.

What is an orb in astrology?

An orb is the allowed distance from an aspect's exact angle. A smaller orb is a tighter geometric contact; configured orbs vary by aspect and use case.

What does applying or separating mean?

Applying means the moving planet is approaching the closest contact. Separating means it has passed the closest contact and is moving away.

Do I need an exact birth time for transits?

Planet-to-planet transits can still be calculated without an exact birth time, subject to Moon uncertainty. An exact time is needed for reliable angles and houses.
