RELATIONSHIPS INSIDE THE CHART

Aspects show how chart functions interact. Geometry comes first.

An aspect is an angular relationship between two calculated points. Selyune measures the actual separation, applies a documented orb, and records whether the contact is applying, exact, or separating.

HOW AN ASPECT IS DESCRIBED

Three facts establish the contact before meaning is added.

This structure separates a mathematical relationship from the language used to reflect on it.

01

Exact angle

The target geometry: 0°, 60°, 90°, 120°, or 180°.

02

Orb

The measured distance from that exact target angle.

03

Phase

Whether the moving relationship is applying or separating.

04

Bodies involved

The two functions whose relationship is being read.

THE MAJOR ASPECT SET

Five geometries, each with a different kind of relationship.

Selyune currently calculates the five major aspects for natal charts, transits, and synastry. Minor aspects are not silently introduced by the narrative layer.

0°
COMBINATION + CONCENTRATION

Conjunction

Two functions occupy nearly the same longitude. Their expression is fused, intensified, or difficult to separate.

Natal orb: up to 8°. Transit orb: up to 2.5°.
60°
OPPORTUNITY + COOPERATION

Sextile

A supportive contact that often describes available coordination, exchange, or a skill that strengthens through use.

Natal orb: up to 5°. Transit orb: up to 1.5°.
90°
FRICTION + DEVELOPMENT

Square

Two functions demand action from incompatible directions. The pressure can become a durable source of effort and growth.

Natal orb: up to 7°. Transit orb: up to 2°.
120°
FLOW + REINFORCEMENT

Trine

Functions support one another with relative ease. The capacity may feel natural enough to go unnoticed without attention.

Natal orb: up to 7°. Transit orb: up to 2°.
180°
POLARITY + INTEGRATION

Opposition

Two functions face each other across the chart, often becoming visible through contrast, projection, or negotiation.

Natal orb: up to 8°. Transit orb: up to 2.5°.

DETERMINISTIC RELEVANCE

Transit priority is calculated, not written by AI.

Selyune ranks current contacts using explicit factors so the most relevant evidence reaches the narrative first.

01

Measure the separation

The shortest angular distance between two longitudes is compared with each supported exact angle.

02

Apply the correct orb set

Natal, transit, and synastry contacts use separate documented tolerances.

03

Determine phase and weight

Tightness, moving body, duration proxy, natal luminaries, and angular houses contribute deterministically.

04

Attach evidence

Every interpreted contact retains its bodies, aspect, orb, phase, and source calculation.

HONEST OMISSIONS

Uncertain input cannot create a certain aspect.

The aspect set responds to the reliability of the source placements, especially the fast-moving Moon and all angle-dependent context.

What the calculation records

  • Exact angular separation and orb
  • Applying, exact, or separating phase
  • Distinct natal, transit, and synastry orb sets
  • Deterministic transit importance

What it does not overstate

  • Moon aspects when birth time is unknown
  • Minor aspects outside the supported set
  • An outcome guaranteed by one aspect
  • A compatibility verdict from Sun signs alone
